When it’s cold, having a pot of hot pot with a few good friends is the source of happiness when dining together. Nutritionists suggest that foods that can help you lose weight easily as long as you don't eat too much include: leafy vegetables, mushrooms, lean meat, konjac products, etc.; while foods that are a nightmare for weight loss include pork belly, marinated meat, bacon, dumplings, meatballs, and starches such as taro, corn, sweet potato, and pumpkin.

Eating hot pot when it’s cold is a must-have experience for Taiwanese people, but if you’re not careful, you can consume more calories than you need for a day. For example, spicy hotpot, which tops the hotpot calorie list, is conservatively estimated to have 2,000 calories per serving. If you add a lot of "weight loss nightmare" ingredients when eating the hotpot, and strip away the side dishes and staple foods such as rice, prince noodles, udon noodles, and vermicelli, then you are destined to say goodbye to size S clothes.

Huang Yunzhen, a nutritionist at the Songde branch of the Lianyi Medical Center, said that people should try to choose low-calorie ingredients when eating hot pot, including leafy vegetables, mushrooms, lean meat, and konjac products; and exclude high-calorie ingredients such as pork belly, marinated meat, bacon, dumplings, meatballs, and starches such as taro, corn, sweet potato, and pumpkin, so as to have a chance to lose weight. She also shared three principles for eating hot pot:

Dipping sauce

Nutritionist Huang Yunzhen said that among all dipping sauces, shacha sauce is high in calories, fat and sodium. One flat spoonful contains 15 grams, and the calories exceed 115 calories, which is a "bad" way to lose weight. It is recommended that people choose Japanese-style soy sauce and add natural onions and garlic as seasoning. In addition, some people like to add raw egg yolks to dipping sauces, but this may cause concerns about salmonella and high cholesterol, so it is not recommended for the young, the elderly or those with high cholesterol.

Main course

Among the above-mentioned weight loss nightmare ingredients, starches such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro, and pumpkin, just one piece may have the calories of a quarter of a bowl of rice. Shrimp dumplings, egg dumplings, hot pot meatballs such as squid balls and pork meatballs, 6 pieces have 150 calories. Not to mention meat with fat, belly, and marbling, which can easily contain more than 200 or 300 calories. In addition, people believe that eating vermicelli is low in calories, but if it is cooked in a greasy soup and added with dipping sauce, the calories may be higher than a bowl of white rice.

Soup portion

People with gout, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes should never eat it. Because all the fat that is rinsed in will run into the soup, the Purin value will easily break the record. It is recommended that people cook the vegetables first when making hot pot, keep the vegetables and add the original soup to drink, and finally blanch the meat and seafood. Nutritionist Huang Yunzhen reminds that when eating hot pot, try to choose drinks such as sugar-free tea and boiled water, and reduce the intake of fruit juice and soda, so as not to gain weight the more you eat. You can choose fruits after meals and avoid sweets or ice products to prevent your stomach from getting uncomfortable due to the sudden change of temperature.
