23 stalls at Ningxia Night Market take the lead in labeling product calories

You can also be more careful about the calories you consume when shopping at night markets. The Taipei Datong District Health Service Center has collaborated with the Ningxia Night Market Tourism Association to instruct 23 night market vendors to introduce calorie labels for their main products, allowing consumers to easily interpret calories and choose healthy food.

Director Chen Shaoqing of the Datong District Health Service Center said that calories are not a secret, and the calorie content of food does not equate to good or bad health. The key is to let the public understand the types of nutrients they need daily, know the correct amount to consume, and be able to make their own combinations. This demand was recognized by vendors at the Ningxia Night Market.

Therefore, 23 stalls have taken the lead in responding to the calorie labeling campaign. In addition to making the information public and transparent, they have also revised their cooking methods to use less oil and less sauce as a healthier approach, retaining the traditional flavor and complying with hygiene management requirements. In the future, they will not proactively provide condiments for consumers to eat directly.

In order to promote this new culture of healthy eating in night markets, the Datong District Health Service Center will hold the "Food Calorie Labeling - New Trend of Healthy Traditional Flavors" at the Ningxia Night Market Tourism Association at 6 p.m. on August 29. A total of four major night markets (Ningxia Night Market, Huaxi Street Night Market, Shilin Night Market, and South Airport Night Market) will participate. On the day of the event, there will be a display of special delicacies and sharing of practical experience to jointly promote healthy food in Taipei night markets.

The Ningxia Night Market Tourism Association stated that it was selected by the Taipei City Government as a "night market transformation demonstration site." In the past, it was the first to build pedestrian areas and grease interception systems. It is the first environmentally friendly night market in the country. Now calorie labeling is also an innovation in the night market. In addition to the 23 vendors who have participated, the other 100 vendors will also receive guidance in succession.
