4 Key Points to Reduce Liposuction Complications and Postoperative Recovery

In recent years, more and more people regard "liposuction" as a shortcut to body shaping and weight loss. Among them, the more common traditional liposuction, water jet liposuction and laser lipolysis all use catheters to invade the subcutaneous tissue to absorb or destroy fat cells. Therefore, after the operation, the repair principle should be strictly followed to prevent or reduce complications such as wound infection, uneven skin, swelling, pain, etc.

Although liposuction or lipolysis surgery can quickly reshape the body and reduce weight, it is still necessary to strictly follow the recovery rules after surgery to avoid complications.

Postoperative recovery focus:

1. Take care of surgical wounds to prevent infection

Traditional liposuction, water jet liposuction, and laser lipolysis are all invasive treatments. The first two require larger incisions and require sutures after surgery, while the wound of laser lipolysis is only the size of a pinhole and does not require sutures. However, special attention must be paid to the problem of postoperative wound infection. Especially in the first three days after liposuction surgery, the wound is prone to exuding a large amount of tissue fluid, and the sterile cotton pad must be changed frequently.

In addition, patients can cover the wound with waterproof dressings after surgery, consume more protein and nutrients, replenish water to maintain electrolytes in the body, and help recover physical strength to accelerate wound healing.

2. Wear elastic tights to prevent cellulite

During liposuction and lipolysis surgeries, the catheter must penetrate deep into the subcutaneous tissue layer to act on the fat. Once the amount of fat is reduced, the space between the skin and fat shrinks, which can easily cause the skin to become loose and uneven. The invasion of the catheter may even cause traumatic symptoms such as bruises and edema on the skin. These conditions are more common in liposuction surgeries.

To avoid postoperative cellulite reaction, bruising and swelling, patients should wear tight clothing, which can help smooth the skin and prevent weight gain. Under normal circumstances, patients who undergo liposuction surgery are recommended to wear medical elastic tights for 3 to 6 months; patients who undergo lipolysis surgery only need to wear ordinary tights for about 1 week.

3. Raise your legs to reduce swelling

If the surgical site is the thigh or calf, in order to allow the lymphatic tissue fluid to flow smoothly, the patient should raise the leg as high as possible to reduce swelling. In addition, after the stitches are removed, you can also massage the affected lymph nodes to eliminate excess tissue fluid in the body and improve the unevenness of the epidermis.

4. Take medicine as prescribed by your doctor to relieve pain

Before liposuction or lipolysis surgery, general or local anesthesia is required. Once the anesthetic wears off, there will be varying degrees of pain. At this time, you can take oral or injected analgesics according to the doctor's instructions to relieve discomfort.
