Tomatoes are one of the staple foods of Westerners every day. The rich nutrients they contain are beneficial to both ordinary people and patients. But you may not have thought that tomato juice can also be used as a hangover remedy. Two major beverage manufacturers in Japan recently collaborated on a study and found that tomato juice can reduce the alcohol concentration in human blood, thereby achieving the effect of sobering up. Japan's The Mainichi reported recently that world-renowned Japanese beverage manufacturers Asahi and Kagome have been conducting an interesting research project since 2009. In the first phase of the experiment, the researchers first injected alcohol into the bodies of white mice with a syringe, and then differentiated it with an aqueous solution containing tomato ingredients. They found that tomato can promote the metabolism of alcohol and acetaldehyde in the mice's bodies, allowing drowsy mice to wake up sooner. The second phase involved human experiments, in which the subjects drank 480 ml of sake and then 100 ml of tomato juice and boiled water respectively. The results showed that the blood alcohol concentration of those who drank tomato juice not only decreased by 30%, but they also sobered up 50 minutes faster on average. Researchers explained that certain components of tomatoes can stimulate the liver to release "alcohol-degrading enzymes" into the blood circulation system, thereby alleviating hangover symptoms. The report also mentioned that the socializing culture in Japanese companies often forces office workers to get up early to go to work even when they are hungover and have a headache. Therefore, recently everyone has the habit of drinking supplementary drinks containing turmeric after getting drunk. It is said that this can speed up the metabolism of alcohol in the body, allowing people to get up full of energy after a good night's sleep and continue a full day of work challenges. |
