What are the common symptoms of vaginitis

Vaginitis, or inflammation of the vagina, is a group of conditions that cause vulvar and vaginal symptoms such as itching, burning, irritation, and abnormal discharge. The vagina of a healthy woman has a natural defense function against the invasion of pathogens due to the characteristics of its anatomical tissue. When the natural defense function of the vagina is damaged, vaginal inflammation occurs.

Symptoms of vaginitis vary depending on the pathogen, but common symptoms include:

1. Abnormal leucorrhea: increased vaginal discharge, which is purulent, yellow or green, and sometimes accompanied by an odor.

2. Vulvar itching: Itching of the vaginal opening and vulva, which may affect daily life and work in severe cases.

3. Burning sensation: There is a burning sensation in the vaginal opening and vulva, and pain during sexual intercourse.

4. Frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination: When inflammation involves the urethra, symptoms such as difficulty urinating, frequent urination, urgency, and pain during urination may occur.

There are other specific symptoms for different types of vaginitis:

1. Candidal vaginitis: itching and burning pain of the vulva, and the secretions are curd-like or tofu-like.

2. Trichomonas vaginitis: The secretion is thin, purulent, yellow-green, and has a foul odor, and may be accompanied by vulvar itching, pain, and pain during sexual intercourse.

3. Bacterial vaginitis: The secretion increases and has a fishy odor, which is especially aggravated after sexual intercourse.

4. Atrophic vaginitis: Vaginal secretions are thin and light yellow. In severe cases, there may be bloody and purulent leucorrhea.

5. Vaginitis in infants and young children: The vaginal mucosa is congested, with scattered spotty bleeding, and sometimes purulent secretions can be seen.

If the above symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time for diagnosis and treatment. At the same time, you should maintain good hygiene habits, strengthen immunity, avoid unclean sex, etc. to prevent the occurrence of vaginitis.
