What causes pelvic inflammatory disease?

PID is an infection and inflammation of the pelvic organs, usually involving the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and connective tissue surrounding the pelvic cavity. Common causes of PID include sexually transmitted infections, bacterial infections, postpartum infections, foreign bodies or improper hygiene, and immune system suppression.

1. Sexually transmitted infections: Common causes of the disease are sexually transmitted bacterial infections such as gonorrhea and Chlamydia trachomatis. These bacteria can be transmitted to the pelvic organs through sexual contact, causing local infection and inflammatory response.

2. Bacterial infection: In addition to sexually transmitted bacterial infections, pelvic inflammation may also be caused by other bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, etc. These bacteria can be transmitted through blood circulation, surgical infection, or in the infection furnace near the pelvic cavity to cause pelvic inflammation.

3. Postpartum infection: During the delivery process, bacteria can enter the uterine cavity through the cervix, and then infect the pelvic organs, causing pelvic inflammation.

4. Foreign objects or improper hygiene: Improper use of foreign objects, vaginal douching, improper care, excessive scrubbing or excessive cleaning and other poor hygiene habits may disrupt the normal balance of vaginal flora, leading to bacterial infection and spread to the pelvic cavity.

5. Immune system suppression: A damaged or suppressed immune system, such as HIV infection, long-term use of immunosuppressants, chemotherapy drugs, etc., will increase the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease.

Common symptoms of pelvic inflammation include lower abdominal pain, fever, abnormal vaginal discharge, pain during sexual intercourse, frequent urination, etc. When symptoms of pelvic inflammation appear, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
