What is pelvic effusion?

Pelvic effusion is a common imaging finding, which usually refers to the presence of fluid in the pelvic cavity, which may be due to physiological or pathological factors.

1. Physiological factors

1 Menstrual period: During the menstrual period, a small amount of menstrual blood may return and gradually flow back into the pelvic cavity, forming a small amount of fluid accumulation.

2 Ovulation period: During ovulation, after the follicle ruptures, the follicular fluid will gradually flow into the pelvic cavity, leading to the formation of fluid accumulation.

3 Peritoneal secretions: The peritoneum has the function of protecting the surface of organs and reducing friction, and its secretions may also flow into the pelvic cavity.

2. Pathological factors

1. Pelvic inflammatory disease: This is pelvic congestion and edema caused by inflammatory infection, accompanied by inflammatory exudate, which cannot be absorbed in time and will accumulate in the pelvic cavity to form pelvic effusion, accompanied by abdominal pain and irregular vaginal bleeding.

2 Ectopic pregnancy: The fertilized egg implants in the fallopian tube outside the uterine cavity. As the embryo grows, it may cause the fallopian tube to rupture and blood to flow into the pelvic cavity, accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding.

3Other factors: such as ovarian and fallopian tube tumors, liver and kidney diseases, corpus luteum rupture, endometriosis, surgical infection, venous return obstruction, etc., may also lead to fluid accumulation.

Note: For physiological pelvic effusion, no special treatment is generally required. For pathological pelvic effusion, the cause needs to be identified in time and appropriate treatment measures should be taken, and the condition should not be delayed. You should pay more attention to personal hygiene, take frequent baths, and change underwear frequently. You should have a reasonable diet and not be picky about food.
