Can ovarian cysts be treated laparoscopically?

The treatment of ovarian cysts depends on the patient's age, whether symptoms worsen, the location, volume, size, growth rate of the cyst, deformation of the uterine appendages, whether fertility is preserved, and the patient's subjective wishes.

Symptoms of ovarian cysts:

Ovarian cysts have no obvious clinical manifestations in the early stages, and patients often discover other diseases during gynecological examinations. As the tumor grows, patients will experience symptoms and signs depending on the nature, size, development, secondary degeneration or complications of the tumor. Symptoms include lower abdominal discomfort, increased abdominal circumference, abdominal tumors, abdominal pain, menstrual disorders, and compression symptoms.

The issues with laparoscopic treatment of ovarian cysts are as follows:

Laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of less trauma, quick recovery, less adhesion, and easy acceptance by patients. However, it is still unclear whether laparoscopy can completely replace open surgery for ovarian endometrial cysts.

After comparing laparoscopy and laparotomy in the treatment of ovarian cysts, we found that the efficacy of laparoscopy in the treatment of ovarian cysts is similar to that of laparotomy, but is significantly superior to laparotomy in many aspects.

The main advantages are:

1. Less trauma to the body, quick recovery time, less bleeding, and less pelvic adhesion after surgery;

2. Due to the formation of pneumoperitoneum, the pelvic view is clear and it is not easy to damage the surrounding organs;

3. Use endoclotti, laser or microwave to cauterize small lesions that are difficult to find by laparotomy;

4. Tubal insufflation can be performed at the same time as tubal insufflation;

5. Diagnosis and treatment can be completed at one time;

6. Laparoscopy can be performed repeatedly.
