What are the common methods of individualized treatment of endometriosis?

The treatment of endometriosis currently advocates individualization, that is, the treatment plan is determined based on age, fertility needs, severity of symptoms, extent of lesions, previous treatment status and the patient's own wishes.

Treatment options for endometriosis

The treatment of pelvic pain, infertility and pelvic mass in patients with endometriosis can be carried out separately. The main treatment methods include surgical treatment, drug treatment, combined surgical and drug treatment and assisted reproductive treatment.

1. Surgical treatment

The purpose of surgical treatment of endometriosis is mainly to remove the lesions and restore the anatomical structure, thereby relieving pain and reducing recurrence.

Types of surgery include:

• Conservative surgery: Only the endometrium is removed, and the uterus and ovaries are preserved. This is usually done through laparoscopy, including the removal of chocolate cysts, cauterization or removal of lesions. Laparoscopic surgery is the preferred method for endometriosis surgery because it allows clear observation of the lesions.

Laparoscopic surgery combined with medication is the gold standard treatment for endometriosis.

•Semi-radical surgery: removal of the ectopic lesion and the uterus, but retaining one or both ovaries.

• Radical surgery: removal of the ectopic lesion, uterus and bilateral adnexa.

2. Drug therapy

Drug treatment is mainly used to relieve the pain of endometriosis and inhibit the growth of ectopic endometrium. There are four common types of drugs: oral contraceptives, progestins, androgens and gonadotropins, and hormone-releasing agonists.
