Can uterine fibroids become cancerous? What is the probability of uterine fibroids becoming cancerous?

How high is the chance of uterine fibroids turning into cancer? Uterine fibroids are very common, and the probability of turning into a malignant tumor is extremely low. It is generally believed to be less than 1%, and gynecological experts say it can be less than one thousandth. Therefore, patients with uterine fibroids should not always worry about the malignant transformation. Psychological factors are very important for the disease. Uterine fibroids that have turned into malignant tumors are not called cancer, but uterine myoma.

Although uterine sarcoma is rare, it is difficult to diagnose early, is easy to metastasize, is difficult to be completely treated with surgery, and is not very sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The recurrence rate after treatment is relatively high, and the five-year survival rate is only about half. Therefore, if the uterus does not shrink after menopause but grows, or if the volume of fibroids in middle-aged women increases too quickly, a careful examination should be conducted in a timely manner to find out whether the fibroids are good or bad as soon as possible, and not to delay the best treatment time.

Uterine fibroids, including small fibroids, are mostly asymptomatic and do not affect health and marriage.

Whether there are symptoms depends on the length of the fibroid. This location has two meanings. First, where it grows. Only 5% of fibroids grow at the uterine ostium, and 95% of fibroids grow inside the uterine body. Second, the layer and depth of the fibroids. Two-thirds grow inside the uterine wall (inside the myometrium), one-quarter grow on the outer surface of the uterus, called subserosal fibroids, and one-tenth grow in the uterine cavity, called submucosal fibroids. This submucosal fibroid increases the area of the endometrium, causing vascular congestion, and the surface is prone to ulceration and infection, which can easily cause menstrual symptoms, mainly heavy menstrual flow and long menstrual cycles. If the submucosal fibroid protrudes too much, it can also fall out of the uterine ostium into the vagina, causing more serious bleeding and infection.

Uterine fibroids generally do not cause pain unless there is necrosis and bleeding inside the fibroids, which is called red-like degeneration. But if the fibroids are not in one place and are larger, they can also cause symptoms of compressing the bladder and rectum.

However, the likelihood of the above symptoms is very small, especially for fibroids of average size. Therefore, you don't have to bear the ideological burden of uterine fibroids. In most cases, you can live peacefully with it.

The above is the knowledge introduced by uterine fibroids experts about the probability of uterine fibroids becoming cancerous. I wish you a speedy recovery.
