What are the causes of vaginal itching in women?

According to clinical statistics, many women will experience symptoms of vaginal itching. Vaginal itching can be caused by many reasons. Therefore, women with vaginal itching should go to a professional gynecologist for examination and then receive symptomatic treatment. What are the causes of vaginal itching in women?

Gynecologists point out that the causes of female vaginal itching are generally caused by the following aspects:

Skin diseases of the vulva: Skin damage of tinea cruris often expands to the vulva, causing severe local itching. Local itching caused by vulvar eczema and neurodermatitis is more severe. The former is manifested as papules and blisters with unclear local skin boundaries and erosion exudate, while the latter often causes skin thickening and lichenification due to scratching. In addition to causing local itching, vulvar leukoplakia is often accompanied by vulvar malnutrition and skin atrophy.

Fungal vaginitis: itching of the vulva and vagina, vulvar hot flushing, dreg-like leucorrhea with an odor, and scratching can cause vulvar itching. It is a common cause of vulvar itching in women.

Chemicals and drugs can cause local itching due to stimulation: direct contact with alkaline soaps, condoms, sanitary napkins, synthetic underwear, etc. can cause local vaginal itching due to stimulation.

Various vulvar diseases: such as vulvar eczema, vulvar hypopigmentation or leukoplakia, vulvar ringworm, vulvar neurodermatitis, and vulvar condyloma acuminatum can cause vaginal itching.

Drug allergy: Women with allergic constitutions may experience "fixed drug eruptions" caused by taking sulfonamides or other drugs. This often occurs at the junction of the skin and mucous membranes of the vulva. In addition to local itching, it may also be complicated by erosion and exudation. Vulvar itching may also occur if allergic reactions and contact dermatitis occur when using drugs for vaginal douching or vaginal insertion.

Irritation from secretions: Inflammation of the reproductive tract caused by fungi, gonococci, Trichomonas, and bacteria, which produces abnormal leucorrhea, as well as stimulation from urine (thin urine, urinary incontinence) and feces (thin feces) can cause vaginal itching.
