Are chocolate cysts contagious?

Are chocolate cysts contagious? Chocolate cysts are a type of disease that occurs when endometriosis spreads to the ovaries. This disease recurs repeatedly and seriously affects the patient's normal life. Therefore, endometriosis is known as the "immortal cancer" in the medical community. So, are chocolate cysts contagious?

According to experts, chocolate cysts are not infectious and are not contagious. There are many causes of chocolate cysts, including genetic factors, immune factors, inflammatory factors, and hemorrhagic factors. The current research on the causes of chocolate cysts has been relatively in-depth, but has not yet been fully understood.

Ovarian chocolate cyst is endometriosis occurring in the ovaries. Due to the periodic shedding and bleeding of the ectopic endometrium, cysts can form. After a long period of bleeding, the cyst fluid can be brown and viscous like chocolate, hence the name. It has nothing to do with eating chocolate.

So far, there is no ideal radical cure except radical surgery. Both drug treatment and conservative surgery have a high recurrence rate. Therefore, the treatment should be selected according to the patient's age, symptoms, signs, lesion range, and fertility requirements, emphasizing individualized treatment. Expectant treatment is used for mild lesions with mild or no symptoms; mild patients with fertility requirements should receive drug treatment after a clear diagnosis, and fertility-preserving surgery should be performed for severe cases.

If chocolate cysts are not treated actively, they may rupture, similar to acute abdomen, forcing patients to seek emergency treatment. Some hospitals that lack treatment experience have insufficient understanding of this new type of acute abdomen and usually perform laparotomy on patients. At this time, the cysts are often accompanied by severe inflammatory reactions, and it is not easy to remove the cysts completely during surgery, which may even lead to the complete removal of one ovary, causing great losses to the patients. Therefore, everyone must choose a regular hospital for treatment.
