What is threatened miscarriage?

Some women in early pregnancy go to the hospital for examination because of vaginal bleeding. After the examination, the doctor will tell them that it is threatened abortion. In fact, threatened abortion is not fatal, because threatened abortion can be treated and prevented. At this time, the patient must pay attention to rest and protect the fetus. In order to let more people understand what threatened abortion is and take relevant measures, I will take you to understand threatened abortion.

Threatened abortion refers to a small amount of vaginal bleeding that occurs in early pregnancy and stops and comes and goes, accompanied by mild lower abdominal pain and backache. It may lead to miscarriage, or it may continue pregnancy after proper treatment. It is mainly caused by the weak constitution of pregnant women, or fatigue, trauma (including improper vaginal examination and sexual intercourse). It is equivalent to "fetal bleeding" in traditional Chinese medicine.

Generally, the main manifestations of threatened abortion are: 1. Amenorrhea after pregnancy. Most patients with spontaneous abortion have a clear history of amenorrhea. 2. Vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain. The first symptom is often vaginal bleeding, which is usually light in amount and often dark red, or bloody leucorrhea, but can sometimes last for 4 to 5 days or more than a week. A few hours to a few weeks after the bleeding occurs, it may be accompanied by mild lower abdominal pain or back pain. After 12 weeks of pregnancy, patients may sometimes feel paroxysmal abdominal pain. Gynecological examination shows that the cervix is not open, no pregnancy products are discharged, and the size of the uterus is consistent with the time of amenorrhea.

For early pregnancy, especially threatened abortion shortly after menopause, the main thing is to observe the possibility of continuing pregnancy. The main auxiliary diagnostic methods are B-ultrasound and blood hCG level detection. In normal early pregnancy, the blood hCG level has a doubling time, and blood hCG can be measured continuously to understand the condition of the fetus. If the blood hCG level increases by less than 65% every 48 hours, it may indicate a poor prognosis of pregnancy. At the same time, continuous monitoring of B-ultrasound is also of great significance. If only the gestational sac is seen but the fetus is not seen for a long time, or the fetus is present but the fetal heart rate is not seen for a long time, it may indicate a poor prognosis.

If vaginal bleeding stops, abdominal pain disappears, and ultrasound confirms that the embryo is alive, the pregnancy can continue. If clinical symptoms worsen, ultrasound finds that the embryo is maldeveloped, and blood hCG continues to not rise or decreases, it indicates that miscarriage is inevitable and the pregnancy should be terminated. In the early stages of pregnancy, you should pay attention to rest and avoid excessive fatigue. You should avoid sexual intercourse in the first three months of pregnancy and try to avoid contact with toxic and harmful physical and chemical substances to avoid threatened miscarriage.
