How should patients with Bartholinitis take care of themselves in daily life?

Bartholinitis is caused by pathogens invading the Bartholin glands. Due to the anatomical location of the Bartholin glands, they are located deep in the back 1/3 of the labia majora on both sides, and the gland duct opens between the hymen and the labia minora. Inflammation is likely to occur when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth, etc. This disease is more common in women of childbearing age. If the inflammatory exudate blocks the duct opening, pus accumulates and cannot flow out, forming a Bartholin gland abscess. If the acute inflammation subsides and the pus becomes clear, a Bartholin gland cyst will form.

Nursing points

1. Keep the vulva clean. Do not have sex during menstruation and postpartum period. Use sterilized sanitary napkins during menstruation to prevent infection.

2. During the acute stage, you should stay in bed to avoid pain. You can apply cold compress locally to relieve pain.

3. You can choose to take a sitz bath with a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution for 15 to 20 minutes each time, twice a day. You can also choose oral antibiotics according to the pathogen, and you must take them according to the course of treatment.

4. Pay attention to your diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, eat a light diet, and eat more nutritious and easily digestible foods.

5. Perform incision drainage and ostomy, change the dressing once a day, and scrub the vulva with 1:20 iodine stock solution twice a day. When the secretion decreases, 1:5000 potassium permanganate can be used for sitz bath to promote healing, but attention should be paid to the concentration, temperature and time of the solution.
