Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of Bartholinitis

Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of Bartholinitis

The Bartholin's glands are located at the back of the labia majora on both sides, and the gland duct opens on the inner side of the labia minora near the hymen. Due to the characteristics of the anatomical location, when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth or other situations, pathogens can easily penetrate and cause inflammation. The accuracy of the diagnosis of Bartholin's glands by combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine is very high. Let's take a look at the clinical manifestations and diagnosis of Bartholin's glands.

Clinical manifestations and diagnosis of TCM:

The main symptoms of this disease are swelling and pain of the vulva, or pus and ulceration, and fever and chills may occur at the same time. The disease is recurrent and the body's vital energy is weak, and it may be difficult to cure for a long time. The diagnosis should focus on this. It should be differentiated from vulvar erosion, vulvar itching and leucorrhea in clinical practice.

1. Evil and poisonous people

Main symptoms: Sudden swelling and pain on one side of the vulva, followed by swelling that rises, difficulty in movement, accompanied by fever, chills, bitter and dry throat, thick yellow vaginal discharge with foul odor, dry stool and yellow urine. Red tongue, yellow color, rapid pulse.

Symptom analysis: Mostly due to poor regulation during menstruation and after childbirth, infection with pathogenic toxins, entering the body and turning into heat, which is stagnant and flows down to the liver meridian, so the vulva is swollen and painful; pathogenic toxins enter the body, and the struggle between the positive and the negative leads to fever and chills; heat toxins accumulate in the liver meridian and flow down, so there is bitter mouth and dry throat, and a large amount of leucorrhea with foul odor; heat burns body fluids, so the urine is red. Red tongue, yellow fur, and slippery and rapid pulse are all signs of heat in the liver meridian and internal accumulation of toxic heat.

2. Excessive toxic heat

Main symptoms: The swelling of the ulcer is getting worse, the skin of the swollen area is red, the crust is thin, and it is soft when pressed, or pus has been discharged from the ulcer, which is often foul-smelling, accompanied by fever, thirst, and heavy vaginal discharge. The tongue is red, the coating is thin and yellow, and the pulse is deep and rapid.

Analysis: The evil toxins enter the body, turn into heat over time, and then rot and turn into pus, so the vulva is swollen and severe, the skin of the swollen area is red and thin, and it is soft when pressed or it breaks and pus comes out; the toxic heat is excessive inside and moves downward, and the yin fluid is damaged, so the symptoms are fever, thirst, and heavy vaginal discharge. The red tongue, yellow fur, and deep and rapid pulse are all signs of internal heat.

3. Deficiency of vital energy

Main symptoms: The vulvar abscess gradually disappears, the heat and pain are reduced, but there is still a hard lump in the affected area, which is difficult to heal for a long time, and the ulcer oozes pus and water, which is clear and small in quantity, accompanied by poor appetite, fatigue and tiredness. The tongue is light red, the coating is thin and white, and the pulse is deep and slow.

Symptom analysis: This syndrome is characterized by pus already ulcerated and toxic evil already expelled, so fever subsides and swelling disappears; but due to deficiency of vital energy and insufficient qi and blood, it is difficult to expel all the toxins, transform the rotten flesh and regenerate new flesh, so the swelling is hard and difficult to disappear, and it is difficult to heal for a long time, and the ulcer oozes pus and water. Poor appetite, fatigue, pale red tongue, thin white fur, and slow pulse are signs of insufficient qi and blood, and weak spleen and stomach.

Western medicine diagnostic criteria for Bartholinitis:

Clinical manifestations

1. One side of the vulva is red, swollen and painful. When an abscess is formed, the pain is severe and may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever.

2. There may be redness, swelling, and a painful lump below the labia majora on one side. After an abscess forms, there may be a sense of fluctuation and the tenderness may increase.

Western medicine diagnosis:

1. A red, swollen, hard lump can be seen at the lower 1/3 of the labia majora on one side, with obvious tenderness or obvious fluctuation.

2. Having systemic symptoms such as fever.

3. Laboratory examination: The total white blood cell count may increase and pathogens may be detected in the secretions of the lesions.

I believe that every woman does not want to suffer from Bartholinitis, not only because it is very harmful, but more because it will affect health and bring pain. Therefore, for our healthy life, we must take precautions against Bartholinitis, so that we can ensure that we live a pain-free life.
