How serious is the danger of pelvic inflammatory disease?

How serious is the danger of pelvic inflammatory disease?

1. Cause ectopic pregnancy

Due to pelvic congestion, patients may have increased menstruation, ovarian dysfunction may cause menstrual disorders, and fallopian tube adhesions and blockage may cause infertility. Because the combination of sperm and egg requires a very complicated process, sperm needs to go through many levels of screening to reach the uterus. No matter if there is a problem in any link, it will have an obstructive effect. If the implantation position is wrong, it will lead to ectopic pregnancy.

2. Pelvic inflammatory disease can lead to septic shock

Acute inflammation may cause diffuse peritonitis, sepsis and even septic shock and other serious consequences; chronic inflammation, due to long-term treatment and repeated attacks, affects women's normal work and life as well as their physical and mental health. Once pelvic inflammatory disease is detected, it should be treated in time.

3. Cause female infertility and dysmenorrhea

Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease often manifests as bilateral salpingitis, which over time can partially or completely block the opening of the fallopian tube, especially the end that receives the egg (called the umbrella end), and can also cause adhesion of the inner mucosa of the fallopian tube due to inflammation, causing the lumen to narrow or close. This can hinder the passage of eggs, sperm or fertilized eggs, leading to infertility and increasing the chance of ectopic pregnancy.

4. Pelvic inflammatory disease can cause other inflammations and diseases

Acute pelvic inflammatory disease can cause acute endometritis and acute myometritis, acute salpingitis, pyosalpinx, tubo-ovarian abscess, acute pelvic connective tissue inflammation, acute pelvic peritonitis, sepsis and septicemia, etc. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is often caused by the failure to completely treat acute pelvic inflammatory disease, or the poor physical condition of the patient, resulting in a prolonged course of the disease.
