Common complications after abortion surgery

Common complications after abortion surgery

Abortion is a commonly used remedial measure for female contraceptive failure in clinical practice. This operation is relatively safe and simple, but it may cause a series of common complications such as vaginal bleeding, reproductive system inflammation, endometriosis, amenorrhea, etc., which may harm the patient's health.

Vaginal bleeding

After an abortion, the wound on the uterine wall may bleed a little. With the contraction of the uterus and the repair of the wound, vaginal bleeding usually stops in 3-5 days and lasts no longer than 10-15 days. If the amount of vaginal bleeding exceeds the amount of menstrual blood and lasts for too long, you need to seek medical treatment in time. Bleeding after an abortion may be related to factors such as the older age of the pregnant woman, the number of births, insufficient negative pressure that does not suck the implantation site, and the unskilled technique of the operator.

Inflammation of the reproductive system

Poor vaginal cleanliness before abortion, incomplete disinfection of surgical instruments, dressings, gloves, etc., and lack of sterile awareness by the operator during the operation are all causes of infection after abortion, which can lead to pathogens infecting the uterus and cause reproductive system inflammation such as endometritis, salpingitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Endometriosis

During the operation, negative pressure suction may cause some blood to flow back into the abdominal cavity due to changes in intrauterine pressure, causing endometriosis. If the cervix is damaged during the abortion operation, it may cause cervical adhesion and stenosis, leading to poor discharge of menstrual blood, which may flow back into the abdominal cavity and also cause endometriosis.

amenorrhea

Excessive scraping of the endometrium during abortion surgery may damage the basal layer of the endometrium in severe cases, leading to oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea.
