Causes of irregular menstruation after abortion

Causes of irregular menstruation after abortion

After artificial abortion, the ovaries can generally resume normal ovulation function within 22 days, and menstruation can occur about 1 month after the operation. However, some patients experience menstrual irregularities such as reduced menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation, irregular cycle length, and amenorrhea after artificial abortion.

Having sex too soon after surgery

If a patient has sex with her partner too soon after an abortion, pathogens may invade the vagina and infect the uterus during sexual intercourse, which can easily cause acute endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, etc., and may also lead to infertility.

Bath

After an abortion, the patient's cervix has not yet completely closed. During a bath, sewage will enter the vagina and infect the endometrium, causing irregular menstruation.

Excessive mental stress and anxiety

Negative mental factors such as fear of abortion, preoperative anxiety, tension, and shame of being pregnant before marriage can cause irregular menstruation or even amenorrhea in patients after the operation.

Individual Differences

Different patients may have different physical fitness. Some patients' endocrine system changes after surgery, and the level of chorionic gonadotropin drops suddenly, which makes the ovaries unable to respond to the gonadotropin of the anterior pituitary gland for a while, resulting in the endometrium not changing according to the cycle and causing irregular menstruation.

Frequent abortions

Frequent abortions and curettage can damage the endometrium, causing it to become thinner and unable to return to normal levels in a short period of time, which can cause irregular menstruation. If the basal layer of the endometrium is damaged, it can lead to amenorrhea.
