What is the relationship between true and false cervical erosion

Cervical erosion is clinically divided into true and false types. The characteristics of the two and the relationship between them are as follows.

1. True erosion

From the perspective of etiology, true erosion is mainly caused by long-term stimulation or immersion of the squamous epithelium around the external os of the cervix by secretions on the surface of the cervix, which causes inflammatory infiltration of the deep tissues of the cervix, causing the squamous epithelium originally covering the surface of the cervix to lose vitality and detach, eventually forming ulcerative erosion.

2. Pseudo-erosion

Strictly speaking, pseudoerosion is not erosion. It is just a layer of columnar epithelium covering the external os of the cervix. It is red granular and has a certain luster. What is actually seen is only the red area around the external os of the cervix. When the surface of the red area is coated with 3% acetic acid under a microscope, grape-like lesions can be seen. It looks like erosion, which is mainly caused by edema of the columnar epithelium. In pathology, it is called "desorption of the surface epithelium."

3. The relationship between true erosion and false erosion

True erosion is only a short stage in the process of cervical lesions. The erosion surface will soon be covered by the surrounding columnar epithelium, eventually forming a granular surface with a certain glossy red area, that is, false erosion. In other words, the outcome of true erosion will eventually be false erosion. This is also a major reason why false erosion is more common in clinical practice.
