Symptoms and diagnosis of adnexitis

Adnexitis is a common gynecological disease. Clinical diagnosis should start with the following three symptoms.

1. Fever

Fever is a basic symptom of adnexitis. Patients will have irregular remittent fever of 39℃-40℃, often accompanied by aversion to cold or chills. If the inflammatory lesions are isolated due to adhesions, the patient's body temperature will drop quickly; if the high fever drops once and then continues to rise, it is likely that the inflammation has spread again or purulent lesions have formed. In general, the patient's pulse rate is positively correlated with body temperature. If the two are not proportional, it may be a signal that the inflammation is widely spread and the condition is aggravated.

2. Abdominal pain

Lower abdominal pain caused by adnexitis is mostly bilateral, and patients rarely experience vomiting. Unlike appendicitis, the abdominal pain of patients with adnexitis is often aggravated during bowel movements, and is often accompanied by symptoms such as urinary pain, constipation, abdominal distension, and mucus in the stool, mainly due to inflammatory stimulation of the colon wall. In addition, lower abdominal tenderness and refusal to press are typical symptoms of adnexitis, especially 1.5 cm to 2.0 cm above the midpoint of the inguinal ligament. The patient's abdominal muscles are rigid, rebound pain is severe, and there will be strong tenderness in the adnexal areas on both sides.

3. Systemic symptoms

During the acute phase of adnexitis, patients have more obvious systemic symptoms, such as facial flushing, weakness, sweating, malaise, and a rapid pulse rate.
