What should be paid attention to when using drugs for abortion

Artificial abortion through drugs is one of the remedies for contraceptive failure. Currently, mifepristone and misoprostol are commonly used in clinical practice. Mifepristone has anti-progesterone, glucocorticoid and mild anti-androgen characteristics, while releasing endogenous prostaglandins to promote uterine contraction and cervical softening. Misoprostol has a significant effect of contracting the uterus. The combination of the two has a better effect on preventing early pregnancy, but the following should also be noted:

1. Strictly abide by indications and contraindications

Indications: Normal intrauterine pregnancy, women with gestational age less than 7 weeks; high-risk abortion candidates; those who are afraid of surgery.

Contraindications: patients with adrenal disease or endocrine-related tumors, diabetes, abnormal liver and kidney function, blood disease and thrombotic disease; patients with cardiovascular system disease, glaucoma, asthma, gastrointestinal dysfunction, anemia, hypertension; patients with pregnancy with an implant or ectopic pregnancy; patients with allergic constitution; patients with severe vomiting during pregnancy; patients with acute inflammation of the reproductive organs; patients taking rifampicin, isoniazid, cimetidine, antidepressants, prostaglandin inhibitors and barbiturates for a long time; patients who are far away from medical institutions and cannot seek medical treatment in time.

2. Pay attention after taking the medicine

Patients should be closely followed up after taking the medicine. In addition to gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the main side effects of medical abortion are heavy bleeding and prolonged bleeding. Patients with severe bleeding should undergo emergency curettage, and traditional Chinese medicine can also be used according to the patient's bleeding condition.
