What are the drugs for abortion?

Medical abortion, also known as drug abortion, refers to the use of injections or medication to achieve the purpose of artificial abortion in the early stages of pregnancy without surgery. In recent years, it has been widely used in clinical practice, which can not only avoid the pain and certain complications of surgical abortion, but also achieve the purpose of stopping pregnancy if there is pregnancy and inducing menstruation if there is no pregnancy. The drugs currently used for medical abortion in clinical practice mainly include the following:

1. Mifepristone combined with misoprostol

Mifepristone: It is a new type of anti-progestogen, with anti-progesterone, glucocorticoid and mild anti-androgen characteristics, while releasing endogenous prostaglandins to promote uterine contraction and cervical softening. Since this drug cannot induce sufficient uterine activity, the incomplete abortion rate is high when used alone to prevent early pregnancy. However, since it can increase the sensitivity of the uterus to prostaglandins, adding a small dose of prostaglandins can reduce the side effects of prostaglandins and reduce the incomplete abortion rate.

Misoprostol: It is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue that has a significant effect on uterine contraction.

2. Kayun suppository combined with testosterone propionate

Carpregnant suppository: It is a derivative of natural prostaglandin F2a, which can increase the frequency and amplitude of uterine contractions and enhance the contractility of uterine muscles; it can inhibit the secretion of endogenous progesterone, reduce plasma progesterone levels, and terminate pregnancy, but it should not be used alone.

Testosterone propionate: has the same effect as testosterone and methyltestosterone.

The combined use of the two is simple, safe, and has few complications. It is suitable for high-risk abortion candidates, healthy women of childbearing age with a gestational age of 8 to 12 weeks, and intrauterine pregnancy.
