Comparison of suction uterine abortion and medical abortion

Artificial abortion, also known as artificial abortion, refers to the termination of pregnancy by surgical means. It is a last resort remedial measure for women who fail to achieve contraception. Common methods of artificial abortion include aspiration uterus, forceps curettage, induction of labor, micro-tube visual artificial abortion, etc. Among them, for those who are within 10 weeks of pregnancy, negative pressure aspiration can be used to suck out the embryonic tissue to terminate the pregnancy. Compared with medical abortion, the two have their own characteristics, mainly including the following aspects:

1. Different indications

Vacuum aspiration is also known as negative pressure aspiration, which is suitable for women who are within 10 weeks of pregnancy. It is also suitable for women who are pregnant with an IUD, and can remove and insert the IUD at the same time.

Medical abortion is suitable for first-time pregnancy, unmarried women and high-risk pregnancy such as multiple births, cesarean section, lactation, multiple vacuum abortions, uterine malformation, etc., but not suitable for pregnancy with an IUD. Suitable population is those with amenorrhea ≤ 49 days. When it is > 49 days, the incomplete abortion rate will increase, and the number of curettages will also increase.

2. Complications

The short-term complications of aspiration uterus include bleeding, residual fetus, infection, vacuum, cervical injury, perforation, and abortion syndrome; the long-term complications include intrauterine adhesions, secondary infertility, endometrial damage leading to amenorrhea, etc.

After medical abortion, residual embryonic tissue, prolonged bleeding, and prolonged menstrual cycle often occur.

3. Repeated application

Both aspiration uterine surgery and medical abortion can be used repeatedly. Repeated use of aspiration uterine surgery can increase risk factors; after repeated use of medical abortion, the complete abortion rate tends to decrease with the increase in the number of pregnancies.
