What age women are prone to dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is the pain in the lower abdomen or waist, or even pain in the lumbar region, during and before and after menstruation. It occurs with every menstrual cycle and in severe cases may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, cold sweats, cold hands and feet, and even fainting, which affects work and life.

Depending on the cause, dysmenorrhea can be divided into primary and secondary.

The most common age for primary dysmenorrhea

Primary dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain without obvious organic lesions in the reproductive organs, also known as functional dysmenorrhea, which often occurs at or shortly after menarche.

According to statistics, 75% of cases of primary dysmenorrhea occur within the first year after menarche, 13% within the second year, and 5% within the third year. It is more common in unmarried and childless women, and dysmenorrhea often eases or disappears after childbirth.

The most common age for secondary dysmenorrhea

Secondary dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain caused by organic lesions of the reproductive organs, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and uterine submucosal myoma. Secondary pain often occurs 2 years after menarche. The age and duration of dysmenorrhea vary with different diseases, and the early and late onset of dysmenorrhea also vary. It often occurs in women around 30 to 40 years old, and is more common in married or childbearing women.
