Amenorrhea caused by hypothyroidism can be checked by blood test first

When the thyroid gland is underactive, the endocrine activity of the pituitary gland and ovaries decreases, which can cause menstrual disorders or amenorrhea.

In terms of clinical manifestations, many patients experience amenorrhea, decreased libido, and reduced fertility. Even if they become pregnant, they are more likely to suffer miscarriage.

In addition, there are symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as chills, fatigue, lack of sweating, muscle weakness, non-specific joint pain, dry, rough, thick skin, anorexia, constipation, abdominal bloating, and half of them have achlorhydria. They often have abnormal expressions, intellectual impairment, slow speech and actions, indifference, swelling around the eye sockets, hoarseness, slow heart rate, and prolonged Achilles tendon reflex time.

When patients with the above symptoms first visit a doctor, a blood test to check thyroid function is the most preliminary diagnosis. Doctors believe that when some patients with amenorrhea experience symptoms such as chills, fatigue, muscle weakness, anorexia, and dry skin, they do not associate these symptoms with amenorrhea. In addition, most patients do not have obvious symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and they will not think that there may be something wrong with their thyroid function.

Therefore, thyroid function test is the most preliminary and basic diagnostic test. The test results can be judged according to the reference value. If it is lower than or higher than the reference value, further diagnosis by a doctor is required.
