Do you know what is hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia?

Although not many people know about hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia, this disease has indeed brought a lot of pain to many patients and their families, and has even affected the patients' lives. Let our experts briefly introduce the causes of vulvar leukoplakia to you! I hope it will be helpful to you!

What is the cause of vulvar leukoplakia? Experts tell you:

The main pathological changes are hyperkeratosis or parakeratosis of the epidermis, thickening of the stratum spinosum, downward extension of the epithelial foot, and varying degrees of lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration in the superficial dermis. It usually occurs in women aged 30-60 years old.

When you suffer from hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia, you will have some symptoms of the disease. The vulva is extremely itchy. Due to frequent scratching or friction, the skin of the labia majora, the groove between the labia, and the clitoral hood is obviously raised and thickened, with rough wrinkles. Local epidermal keratinization with scaling or eczema-like changes may also occur. The color of the lesion is mostly dark red or pink, and some skin or mucous membranes show white patchy changes, generally without atrophy or adhesion. If scratched excessively, scratches and epithelial defects are common in the lesion area. If there is infection, pain or ulcers may occur.

Generally speaking, hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia like this can be classified according to its symptoms, and there are mainly the following classifications.

1. Stage I hyperplastic leukoplakia of the vulva: The main symptom is vulvar itching. Some patients experience severe itching, which worsens at night. Scratching often causes redness, swelling and ulceration, and may cause burning and other discomfort.

2. Stage II hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia: Based on the symptoms of stage I, keratinization and hyperplasia appear in the skin of the lesion area, and mild hypopigmentation appears locally on the vulvar skin (usually appears on the inner side of the labia majora and minora), in the form of dots or small white papules, with a frosty white surface.

3. Stage III hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia: The skin is severely keratinized and hyperplastic, the keratin layer repeatedly falls off, or scratching causes vulvar irritation, edema, fissures, ulceration and erosion. There may be itching accompanied by pain. The patient feels that the symptoms are severe, but the treatment effect of this type of patients is rapid. Within one course of treatment, the symptoms of about 85% of patients are basically eliminated.
