Vaginal itching and abnormal fishy discharge

Vaginal itching and abnormal fishy discharge

Vaginal itching accompanied by abnormal fishy smell of vaginal discharge may be caused by vaginitis, sexually transmitted infections or other gynecological diseases. You need to see a doctor in time to identify the cause and receive targeted treatment. Common causes include bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis. Treatment methods include medication, lifestyle adjustment and diet adjustment.

1. Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of flora in the vagina, which leads to an overgrowth of harmful bacteria. Symptoms include increased vaginal discharge, a fishy odor, and mild itching. Treatment is usually with antibiotics, such as metronidazole or clindamycin, which can be taken orally or applied topically. Also, avoid using harsh washes and keep the vulva clean and dry.

2. Fungal vaginitis

Vaginitis candidiasis is caused by infection with Candida albicans. Common symptoms include dreg-like vaginal discharge, vulvar itching and burning sensation. Antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole suppositories or fluconazole oral tablets can be used for treatment. Wear breathable cotton underwear and avoid wearing tight pants for long periods of time.

3. Trichomonas vaginitis

Trichomonas vaginitis is caused by vaginal infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. Leucorrhea is yellow-green and foamy, accompanied by a strong odor and itching. Metronidazole or tinidazole are the first choice for treatment. Partners need to be treated at the same time to avoid cross infection. Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment and pay attention to personal hygiene.

4. Adjust your lifestyle

Keep your vulva clean and dry, and avoid using soap or perfumed products to wash it. Choose cotton underwear, and avoid tight pants or underwear made of synthetic materials. Change your underwear every day and dry it in the sun after washing.

5. Diet adjustment

Eating more foods rich in probiotics, such as yogurt and fermented foods, can help maintain the balance of vaginal flora. Reduce the intake of high-sugar foods, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and drink more water to promote metabolism.

Vaginal itching and abnormal leucorrhea odor may be signs of a variety of gynecological diseases. Timely medical treatment to identify the cause is the key. Medication, lifestyle adjustment and diet can effectively relieve symptoms and prevent recurrence. If symptoms persist or worsen, be sure to see a doctor as soon as possible to avoid delaying treatment.
