There are several categories of abnormal leucorrhea

Abnormal leucorrhea can be divided into two categories: physiological abnormal leucorrhea and pathological abnormal leucorrhea. Physiological abnormal leucorrhea is usually related to the menstrual cycle, pregnancy or mood swings, while pathological abnormal leucorrhea is mostly caused by infection, inflammation or other gynecological diseases.

Physiological abnormal leucorrhea usually manifests as an increase in the amount of leucorrhea or a change in texture, but the color and odor are normal. For example, the amount of leucorrhea increases during ovulation and is transparent and stringy; the amount of leucorrhea also increases during pregnancy, but the texture is more viscous. These changes are normal physiological phenomena and do not require special treatment. However, if the color of leucorrhea changes to yellow, green, or grayish white, accompanied by an odor or itching, it may be pathological abnormal leucorrhea. Common pathological abnormal leucorrhea include bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis, and trichomoniasis. The leucorrhea of bacterial vaginitis is grayish white with a fishy smell; the leucorrhea of candidal vaginitis is like tofu dregs and is accompanied by severe itching; the leucorrhea of trichomoniasis is yellow-green, foamy, and accompanied by an odor.

For pathological abnormal vaginal discharge, the treatment method varies depending on the cause. Bacterial vaginitis is usually treated with antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin; candidal vaginitis is treated with antifungal drugs such as fluconazole or clotrimazole; and trichomoniasis requires anti-trichomoniasis drugs such as metronidazole or tinidazole. Keeping the vulva clean and dry, avoiding the use of irritating lotions, and wearing cotton underwear can also help prevent abnormal vaginal discharge. If abnormal vaginal discharge persists or worsens, you should seek medical attention in a timely manner, undergo a detailed examination to determine the cause, and receive targeted treatment.

In daily life, women should pay attention to personal hygiene, avoid unclean sexual behavior, and have regular gynecological examinations. In terms of diet, eating more foods rich in vitamins and minerals, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, can help enhance immunity and prevent infection. Maintaining a good attitude and adequate sleep are also essential to maintaining vaginal health. If leucorrhea is abnormal, do not take medication on your own, but seek treatment under the guidance of a doctor to avoid delaying the condition.
