Acute adnexitis examination: enlarged adnex

Acute adnexitis is an inflammation of the appendages that is usually caused by infection and requires prompt medical treatment. Common causes include bacterial infection, sexually transmitted diseases or surgical complications, and treatments include antibiotics, surgical intervention and lifestyle adjustments.

1. Bacterial infection is one of the main causes of acute adnexitis. Common pathogens include gonococci, chlamydia and Escherichia coli. These bacteria spread to the appendages through sexual contact, surgery or infection of adjacent organs, causing an inflammatory response. In treatment, doctors will choose antibiotics such as cephalosporins, azithromycin or doxycycline according to the type of bacteria, and the course of treatment is usually 7-14 days.

2. Sexually transmitted diseases are also an important factor leading to the enlargement of the appendages. Gonorrhea and chlamydia infection are common sexually transmitted diseases. If not treated in time, they may cause adnexitis. Preventive measures include using condoms, regular physical examinations and timely treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. During treatment, doctors will prescribe targeted antibiotics, such as ceftriaxone combined with azithromycin.

3. Surgical complications may also cause the adnex to enlarge. For example, after an abortion, cesarean section, or pelvic surgery, bacteria may enter the adnexal area through the surgical incision and cause infection. Postoperative care is essential, including keeping the wound clean, taking antibiotics on time, and avoiding strenuous exercise. If the infection is severe, surgery may be required to drain or remove the diseased tissue.

4. Lifestyle adjustments can help prevent and relieve acute adnexitis. In terms of diet, it is recommended to consume more foods rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, such as citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables and nuts, to enhance immunity. In terms of exercise, moderate aerobic exercise such as walking, yoga or swimming can help promote blood circulation and reduce inflammation. At the same time, avoiding sitting for long periods of time, maintaining personal hygiene and regular work and rest are also important measures to prevent adnexitis.

If acute adnexitis is found to be enlarged, you need to seek medical attention in time to identify the cause and receive targeted treatment. Antibiotic treatment, surgical intervention and lifestyle adjustments can effectively control inflammation and prevent complications. If you experience symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, fever or abnormal secretions, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible to avoid worsening of the condition.
