Obesity may cause myocardial infarction, it is not an urban legend! Weight loss specialist Chen Weilong made an appeal based on his own experience. 14 years ago, due to his busy work and the need to take care of his doctoral thesis, he reversed his day and night habits, overate, and gained nearly 10 kilograms in a year. He suffered a sudden myocardial infarction in the laboratory. Fortunately, he was discovered in time by his junior and rushed to the hospital, saving his life. Dr. Chen Weilong, a weight loss specialist at the Churi Clinic, still has lingering fears when he recalls the time when his life was hanging by a thread. He said that his main health problems were caused by irregular work and rest schedules and multiple pressures over the years. He started suffering from gout at the age of 35. His uric acid level and blood sugar level were high, and his weight was steadily above 80 kilograms. Chen Weilong recalled his health red light periods, namely the three stages of student days, pre-marriage, and doctoral studies. Chen Weilong pointed out that he loved to eat all kinds of desserts and cakes since he was a child, and he did not care about his weight rising steadily until high school in order to participate in social activities and chase girls, he began to pay attention to his appearance and lost 20 kilograms in half a year; after graduating from medical school and entering the hospital to work, the high pressure and shift work made his life chaotic. He often made appointments with colleagues to drink and eat supper after get off work, which caused his weight to rebound quickly like blowing up a balloon, and he gained back to 82 kilograms in one breath. It was not until I was preparing to take wedding photos that I realized I could no longer fit into my suit pants, so I started losing weight again. "After I got married and had a child, I started to lose control of my diet again," said Dr. Chen Weilong. He admitted that after marriage, he not only became an attending physician, but also returned to school to pursue a doctorate. Under multiple pressures, not only did his weight increase sharply, but even his uric acid and blood sugar levels were high. At the age of 35, he often suffered from gout. One night in the laboratory, he was rushed to the hospital due to sudden chest tightness, chest pain, and acute myocardial infarction. His condition was so serious that a critical illness notice was issued. He finally stayed in the intensive care unit for a week before being transferred to the general ward for observation. A near-death experience made Dr. Chen Wei-long realize the significant impact of "eating" on health! He began to adjust his eating habits. In the past, I loved eating bread for breakfast, and had starch and other refined carbohydrates for lunch and dinner. I gradually switched to a low-carb diet. In the past four years, I have further changed to a 211 plate and given up refined starch. A near-death experience made Dr. Chen Wei-long realize the significant impact of "eating" on health! He began to adjust his eating habits. (Photo provided by Hatsuhi Clinic) Dr. Chen Wei-long shared that when he eats buffet lunch, he would choose a lot of green vegetables and chicken breast, and reduce or even avoid eating rice. During dinner time, if he has an outpatient clinic, he would ask his wife to prepare chicken breast the night before and pair it with the hospital's vegetarian lunch box to supplement leafy vegetables and protein. At home, I mainly eat a Mediterranean diet, such as lettuce salad with olive oil, and consume plenty of high-quality protein such as chicken breast and fish. He said: "The small bags of white rice sold in supermarkets now are not enough for our family of four to finish in a month." Not only meals, Dr. Chen Wei-Lung pointed out that in the past, when he and his wife went to a chain coffee shop for a date, they would always order a super large cup of hot chocolate, but after being reborn, they all changed to sugar-free soy milk, and would only order a cappuccino with less sugar when they wanted to indulge occasionally. Doctor Chen Weilong laughed and said that he did not know that a large cup of hot chocolate contained up to 80g of sugar, equivalent to 16 sugar cubes, and he drank more than 4 cups a week. It was only after he fell seriously ill that he seriously understood the composition of food and conducted in-depth research on the relevant knowledge and methods of weight loss. This life-and-death situation gave Dr. Chen Weilong a profound awareness of health. He hopes to use his own experience to teach more obese people the correct concept of weight loss and understand the importance of pursuing health. Dr. Chen Weilong emphasized that pursuing health is important, but finding the right method is more critical. |
