Liu Bo'en, executive director of the Taiwan Obesity Prevention and Treatment Education Association and a weight loss specialist, pointed out that he recently admitted a 35-year-old lady named Xie who worked in a karaoke parlor. Due to irregular menstruation, she often took menstrual regulating pills on her own, which caused her to gain 11 kilograms in one month. In the end, she had to come to the weight loss clinic for help.

Be careful of the side effects of drug-induced obesity when taking medication

The type of obesity suffered by this lady boss surnamed Xie is "drug-induced obesity". Although drugs have the effect of treating diseases, because drugs are chemical substances, they contain toxins that will precipitate in the human body and cause poisoning. In addition, many drugs can also cause side effects such as obesity, which is quite annoying.

In particular, some metabolic drugs, hormonal preparations, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, psychiatric drugs, antihypertensive drugs, vitamins, etc. are more likely to cause drug-induced obesity. Menstrual regulating drugs contain hormones that slow down the decomposition of fat. In addition, the patient often drinks alcohol, which catalyzes her weight gain in a short period of time.

Relying on "medicine" to cure obesity has led many obese women to believe in folk remedies and eat health foods indiscriminately, causing harm to their bodies.

Myth: Healthy food helps you lose weight

Doctor Liu Boen emphasized that if you suffer from drug-induced obesity, you must not stop taking the medicine at will. You should discuss with your doctor about changing the medicine if your condition permits or there are other medicines available. If long-term medication is necessary, local electrical stimulation can be used on obese areas to help reduce subcutaneous fat in those areas, eliminating all side effects and risks of invasive treatments.

In addition to drug-induced obesity, many people also often have the wrong myth that "you can lose weight by eating healthy foods instead of taking diet pills." In fact, many of these products can obtain health food certification only after being proven effective in animal experiments, but there is actually not enough human experimental evidence to prove that they can lose weight, and in fact, they are not effective at all.

Diet control combined with moderate exercise

Dr. Liu Bowen recommends that if you want to lose weight, you should focus on diet control and supplement it with exercise. You should sleep for 8 hours on weekdays, eat 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit every day, use 3C for less than 2 hours after get off work, exercise for 1 hour every day, and only drink sugar-free zero-calorie beverages. You can lose weight effectively by adjusting your work and rest schedule.

In addition, you should drink at least 2000cc of water every day, have a balanced and sufficient diet, and it is best not to eat anything after 8pm, and do moderate exercise. As for the exercise part, it is recommended to focus on the core muscle groups, increase muscle training, do more gymnastics and weight training, and cooperate with brisk walking, jogging, etc., 3 times a week, 30 to 40 minutes each time, to build muscle and reduce fat.
