Playing badminton, sudden stop, jump smash... learn how to prevent sports injuries

Although it may seem like badminton players find practice very easy, they are still prone to sports injuries. Especially during practice, fast running, sudden stops, jump kills and other actions are often performed, which can easily cause sports injuries and put great pressure on the cardiovascular system. If athletes want to avoid permanent injuries from overtraining, they must first learn sports injury prevention.

Badminton often involves movements such as fast running, sudden stops, and jump smashes, which can easily cause sports injuries.

Badminton movements can be slow or fast, which can easily cause sports injuries

Dr. Lin Ying-chou, chief convener of the Chang Gung Medical System's Sports Medicine Integrated Care Team, said that badminton is a sport suitable for all ages. The movements can be slow or fast, and it can be used as a leisure sport or a competitive sport. However, badminton often involves movements such as sprinting, sudden stops, and jump smashes, which can easily cause sports injuries and put great pressure on the cardiovascular system, especially for athletes who have to train frequently. Therefore, it is very important to prevent athletes from suffering permanent injuries due to excessive training in order to comprehensively improve the level of domestic badminton.

Bai Yupo, currently ranked 21st in the world, said, "Besides training, the biggest worry for badminton competitions is the accumulated fatigue from traveling around, and acute injuries that affect performance on the field. He said that he had participated in a badminton tournament because the venue was too hard and did not meet the standards. The intense running and jumping during the game accelerated the degree of sports injuries. After the final, his feet were so painful that he could not walk.

Playing badminton requires a lot of movement and puts a lot of strain on the lower limbs

Another player, Li Jiaxin, who has won international championships in Auckland and Poland Badminton Championships and is also a trainee for the 2017 Taipei Universiade, also pointed out that in badminton, striding is the main movement mode of the lower body. Especially in singles events, the movement of the entire game puts a heavy burden on the lower limbs. After years of training and intensive competitions, problems gradually emerged. A CT scan revealed that the hip labrum was suspected to be damaged, and he then underwent arthroscopic surgery. Fortunately, after 6 months of postoperative rehabilitation, he won the runner-up in the second badminton national ranking tournament.

Li Jiaxin said: "The rehabilitation process is very grueling. I can only do simple movements to maintain my physical fitness. During the six months of rehabilitation and self-adjustment, I truly felt the importance of physical health to athletes. However, after contacting the Chang Gung Sports Medicine team, the number of injuries and excessive fatigue has been greatly reduced. In addition to the careful care of the guards and teaching of many correct training concepts, I not only know how to practice, but also know how to protect myself. I am very grateful to the Chang Gung team for their support and care."

Support team! Chang Gung Sports Medicine Integrated Care Program is a Success

Dr. Lin Ying-chou said that since 2014, the Chang Gung Integrated Sports Medicine Care Program has been promoted to create the strongest and most powerful support team for Taiwanese athletes. For important national events such as the 2016 Olympics, the 2015 Universiade, and the 2014 Asian Games, the Chang Gung Medical System has dispatched the best sports medicine physicians and protection specialists to accompany the team to take care of the athletes' health.

In addition, we hold sports injury prevention seminars every year, providing training courses for trainers and coaches to improve their professional abilities. Through explanations by highly professional physicians with rich experience in sports injury treatment, trainees can absorb practical and effective new medical knowledge.
