This student, Chen, originally had a BMI of 28. He usually liked to eat high-calorie foods such as fried chicken, donuts, and French fries, and he ate them at least three times a week on average. As a result, he was teased by his classmates as "Fatty". However, last year, when Chen attended a summer parent-child weight loss camp held by a hospital in the south, he accepted the nutritionist's healthy eating advice and changed his eating habits. He gradually reduced the frequency of eating high-calorie foods and increased his intake of fruits and vegetables. His parents even made an agreement that for every reduction in fried chicken intake, he could go out and play basketball with friends one more time. This situation lasted for half a year, and his BMI value dropped to 21. His classmates started calling him "Meng Meng Da", which made the whole family very happy.

The health hazards of obesity are the focus of global public health issues in the 21st century, and the threat to young people in particular cannot be underestimated! The National Health Administration said that people often say that being fat when you are young is not considered fat, but this is not true. People who are fat when they are young are more likely to be fat when they grow up. Studies have shown that 42% to 63% of obese children will become obese adults when they grow up, and the probability of obese teenagers becoming obese adults is as high as 70% to 80%.

However, according to data from the Ministry of Education's Student Health Information System in 2014, the overweight and obesity rates for elementary school students were 29.0% (32.8% for boys and 24.9% for girls), while the overweight and obesity rates for junior high school students were 28.8% (33.1% for boys and 24.2% for girls). Simply put, nearly 30% of elementary and junior high school children in our country are overweight or obese, posing health concerns.

In order to help schoolchildren and parents lose weight and stay away from the threats of obesity and chronic diseases, the National Health Administration encourages parents to bring their children to participate in 85 parent-child weight loss activities organized by 82 hospitals across Taiwan. With the assistance of professionals such as nutritionists and sports instructors, through fun and easy group game competitions, parent-child DIY healthy cooking, and healthy and regular gymnastics activities, healthy diet and regular exercise are integrated into life to achieve the goal of weight control.
