According to the scientific news website EurekAlert!, a study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology found that just getting up from a chair and walking for two minutes every hour can extend your life.

Srinivasan Beddhu, a professor at the University of Utah, and his team used data from 3,626 subjects in the National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey from 2003 to 2004 to analyze the importance of low-intensity and mild activities for the general population and patients with chronic kidney disease.

Get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week

The report pointed out that the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity per week. If we calculate based on 16 hours of wakefulness per day, the above activities only account for 2% of the time, so most of the remaining time is spent on low-intensity activities such as standing and light-intensity activities such as casual walking.

Even if you don't have time to exercise, people should not forget to get up and move around every hour to avoid sitting still for long periods of time.

Studies have found that if people who sit for a long time get up and walk for 2 minutes every hour, they can reduce the mortality rate of the general population by 33%, and can reduce the mortality rate of patients with chronic kidney disease by 41%. Among these subjects, most people spent more than half of their time sitting every day, and those with chronic kidney disease spent more than two-thirds of their time sitting.

Professor Beddoe said: "Extended periods of sitting are associated with a significant increase in mortality. Our study found that replacing long periods of sitting with increased levels of light activity could provide life-extending benefits."

Keep exercising and get up and walk around after sitting for a long time

Are you still sitting and surfing the Internet? It is recommended that people should maintain a good habit of moderate exercise. Even if they do not have time to exercise, they should stand up and walk around every hour to stretch their muscles and bones to avoid blood circulation problems and diseases caused by "sitting" over the years!
