Iron Mom Jia Yongjie's 5 Principles of Sports Events

The rise of the fashion sports trend has led many celebrities and female stars to join the night running, cycling, fitness... ranks. Last weekend (12/8), supermodel Lin Youli fainted due to heat exhaustion while participating in a road running event in Pingtung. Her forehead was scratched on the ground, which scared everyone. When we interviewed Jia Yongjie, who often participates in competitions, we asked her how she could take protective measures. With so much experience, she is known as the "Lady of Triathlon" and reminds athletes of the five most basic principles of participating in competitions:

1. Do enough training beforehand

Jia Yongjie laughed and said that she had a devil coach, who was her husband! Running twice a week, 6 to 8 kilometers each time, or cycling about 60 kilometers, is her basic "menu"; in addition, she must assess the weather conditions before the competition. If the ambient temperature is very high, she will train herself to run at noon to improve her heat tolerance.

2. Take necessary measures before starting

Drinking plenty of water, stretching and other warm-up exercises beforehand are essential to keep the body hydrated and muscles warm, thus minimizing sports injuries. Jia Yongjie said with a smile that before her children took part in the relay race, she also kept a close eye on them and followed the same procedures. If the children did the same, how could the adults be so negligent?

3. Accumulate experience to adapt to changes

This year alone, Jia Yongjie has participated in five triathlon events, one super triathlon, and one cycling event, as well as a swim across Sun Moon Lake and other large and small road running events. With all this competition experience, she can easily grasp any changes in her physical condition or environment as soon as she notices a problem.

4. Don’t let your heartbeat explode

As long as you feel your heart rate can no longer bear the strain and your physical strength starts to decline, you should slow down. It’s not shameful to even walk. Don’t try too hard, and don’t force yourself.

5. No matter the outcome, safety comes first

Jia Yongjie said: "I always remind myself that I am a mother of three children and I will never try to be brave." For example, during the cycling competition in Wuling this year, when it was windy and rainy while riding on the mountain road, she told herself to go as slow as possible. It didn't matter if she didn't finish the race, because safety was the most important thing.
