Starch phobia? Ketoacidosis may lead to weight gain

Speaking of weight loss methods that are loved by celebrities at home and abroad, the "meat-eating weight loss method" can be said to be well-known and has been used for a long time. The meat-eating weight loss method is said to help the body burn fat and achieve the goal of rapid weight loss. The key to weight loss is that the diet must adhere to the principle of "high protein and low starch".

The weight loss method of not eating starch and only eating meat and other proteins may cause ketoacidosis in the body.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Wu Borui pointed out that many people eat meat to lose weight without the guidance of professionals, and even regard starch as the enemy of weight loss. This makes people who have always relied on rice and bread as their staple food love and fear starch, which increases the pressure of losing weight. Furthermore, without professional guidance, eating a high-protein diet for a long time puts a huge strain on the kidneys and may also lead to the risk of ketoacidosis.

Forcing the body to work overtime destroys the system's overwork mechanism

Pharmacist Xu Huiran pointed out that when the human body does not absorb enough carbohydrates, the body does not have enough sugar and has to burn protein and fat to supply energy. This burning process will produce ketone bodies. However, ketone bodies cannot be absorbed and utilized by the body, so the body must work overtime to excrete these ketone bodies. In this excretion process, a large amount of water and ions are taken away, so it can achieve the effect of reducing weight.

However, when the human body receives the message that there is insufficient carbohydrate and worries that energy can no longer be supplied, it will work harder to convert the food it eats into fat and store it twice as much in case of emergency. If you fail to pay attention to the right food choices at this time, the amount of fat stored will be greater than before and it will be easier to gain weight again.

Increased burden on kidneys and increased cholesterol

As for other negative effects, pharmacist Xu Huiran also pointed out that a high-protein diet will increase the burden on the kidneys, and those with impaired kidney function will accelerate the deterioration of the kidneys; the amount of purine contained in high-protein foods is also relatively high, which will increase uric acid concentration after metabolism in the human body and induce gout attacks. A diet high in cholesterol and saturated fat will also increase blood cholesterol (CH) and bad cholesterol (LDL) concentrations, which can easily cause arteriosclerosis and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

In addition, meat is acidic, low in vitamins B, C and fiber, and lacks calcium, phosphorus and other ingredients. Although it is very resistant to hunger, it lacks necessary nutrients for the human body and can easily lead to metabolic disorders, causing phenomena such as weak hands and feet, smelly mouth, and acne.

Correct metabolic balance in the body to create a permanently lean physique

Most of the popular "single diet weight loss methods" emphasize fast and effective weight loss, but no single food can provide all the nutrients needed by the human body. Therefore, a balanced diet is the most important prerequisite for maintaining weight for a long time.

If you are really afraid of gaining weight by consuming starch, pharmacist Xu Huiran said that you can choose starch with a low GI value and eat it in breakfast and lunch. For dinner, you can eat mainly light vegetables, fruits and protein foods, and enjoy the starch without gaining weight.
