Study: Black tea lowers blood pressure, green tea increases bone density

Since ancient times, tea has been the most popular drink in the East. Studies in the past have confirmed that tea is rich in antioxidants and is effective in fighting cancer. The latest study also points out that drinking tea can also prevent chronic diseases such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.

According to USA Today, the 5th International Scientific Symposium on Tea and Human Health held in Washington recently discussed the latest research on tea.

Among them, research from the Texas Tech University Health Science Center shows that green tea can help reduce the risk of fractures and increase bone density. Osteoporosis is an irreversible disease, so early prevention is the best method. In the study, 171 postmenopausal women were asked to take 500 mg of green tea polyphenol capsules every day (approximately equivalent to 4 to 6 cups of tea). After 6 months, it effectively promoted bone reconstruction and delayed bone loss.

In addition, regarding black tea, Claudio Ferri, director of internal medicine at University L'Aquila in Italy, said that in a small study they conducted, 19 patients with hypertension and 19 people with normal blood pressure were asked to drink a cup of black tea before eating a high-fat meal. It was found that black tea had the effect of lowering blood pressure and reducing fat accumulation in the arteries for both groups. In addition, Ferri also emphasized that flavonoids in tea are an important component of tea, which can promote artery dilation and reduce the incidence of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
