In addition to its first-class taste and flavor, it also saves about 20% of fertilizer compared to ordinary rice, making it very popular.

Director Hou Fengwu of Miaoli District Agricultural Improvement Station pointed out that the new variety "Miaoli No. 2" took a total of ten years to select and test, and can be said to be the result of the hard work of Miaoli Agricultural Improvement Station. Miaoli No. 2 is a hybrid of Taichung No. 3 and Japan's Koshihikari variety.

The new rice variety "Miaoli No. 2" is soft and chewy, so it is very good for making rice products. When making sushi or rice balls, the rice will not become hard even if it is eaten at a low temperature, but will remain soft. It is most suitable for the elderly. It has a soft and chewy texture, and its taste is just as good as the "Taiwanese No. 9" that is loved by Chinese people. Even the elderly can easily enjoy it. Even if the rice is cold, it is still very chewy and easy to chew.

Farm manager Hou Fengwu emphasized that "Miaoli No. 2" is a short rice variety that is not easy to lodging. It is suitable for the low sunshine and strong northeast monsoon climate characteristics of the northern region. The yield is also better than Taigeng No. 9. On average, the lodging rate is more than 20% lower than that of ordinary rice, and fertilizer can be saved by 10% to 20%.

Unlike "Miaoli No. 1" used for winemaking, Miaoli Agricultural Innovation Station is very optimistic about the commercial potential of the new rice variety "Miaoli No. 2".
