Plastic surgery before development: unpredictable sequelae

According to the Chosun Ilbo, influenced by newspapers, magazines and advertisements, the age of Korean female students undergoing plastic surgery has gradually decreased, spreading from high school seniors to junior high school students whose growth and development have not yet reached maturity. Domestic plastic surgeons remind that although there is currently no law setting a minimum age limit for plastic surgery patients, it is still recommended to wait until the bones are fully developed before undergoing surgery to avoid unpredictable sequelae.

Plastic surgeon Wang Duxing said that although my country does not limit the age of patients undergoing plastic surgery, it is still recommended to wait until the patient has grown and matured before arranging the surgery.

However, in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Code and the Criminal Code, if teenagers under the age of 20 want to undergo plastic surgery for the sake of beauty, they must first obtain the consent of their parents or guardians and sign a consent form for surgery.

However, from the perspective of adolescent growth and development, even though modern girls develop earlier and are like little adults at the age of 15 or 16, it is still recommended to wait until the age of 18 when development is more stable before arranging the surgery. Similarly, surgery should be performed after careful evaluation by a physician and consent from the guardian.

The top three cosmetic surgeries for young women in China are double eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and face reduction. Only 40% of Taiwanese people are born with double eyelids. Influenced by fashion trends, many beauty-conscious women with single eyelids choose to have double eyelids surgically created to show off their charming eyes.

Dr. Wang Duxing said that he once met a mother who asked about double eyelid surgery for her newborn baby with single eyelids. Although double eyelid surgery seems to have nothing to do with growth and development at first glance, the size of the eyes will change with developmental maturity. In order to avoid unexpected side effects after surgery, it is still recommended to wait until the baby is 18 years old and mature before undergoing surgery.

If a teenager undergoes rhinoplasty before reaching maturity, the bones may continue to grow and thicken, causing the nose to become too high and too straight, or even break the skin, causing the nasal bone to shift and deform.

As for thin faces, doctors recommend that if you have a muscular square face, you can just inject botulinum toxin; if you have a round face caused by your natural bones, you should also wait for bone cutting surgery after you have grown and matured to avoid bone hyperplasia during the development period, which increases the risk and uncertainty of prognosis.
