A Harvard University study confirmed that eating too much red meat will significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.

The Guardian today quoted a paper published by a Harvard University research team in the Archives of Internal Medicine. After cross-checking 120,000 case records and eating habits, it was found that the proportion of deaths from cardiovascular complications and cancer is greatly correlated with eating red meat. If quantitative values ​​are used, the patient's mortality rate will be 13% higher, the probability of heart disease will be 16% higher, and the cancer rate will be 10% higher. If you like to eat processed meats such as sausages and hot dogs, then this set of data will be adjusted to 20%, 21% and 16%.

Interestingly, if people regularly consume white meat (such as fish, chicken) or plant protein, not only will their average life expectancy be extended, but their mortality rate is also estimated to be reduced by 7% to 10%. Among them, nuts have the best effect, reaching 20%. Although Chinese people are familiar with the results of this study, few pay attention to how much processed red meat they eat. The World Cancer Research Fund recommends that the upper limit of 500 grams per week should be maintained as much as possible. Once excessive intake is achieved, the saturated fat and sodium content in it are the key to disease and death.

Red meat is rich in iron, zinc, selenium, B vitamins and D.
