The Line Between Beauty and Ugliness: Autologous Fat Transplantation (Part 2)

The Line Between Beauty and Ugliness: Autologous Fat Transplantation (Part 2)

Although the prospects for autologous fat transplantation seem promising, it is not omnipotent. Although it is a simple operation, it still cannot escape the anesthesia risks and recovery period that every operation has. Compared with fillers such as hyaluronic acid, doctors can control the injection volume very precisely: when 0.3cc is needed to smooth out a depression, as long as they have good skills to inject the required amount into the correct position and depth, they can achieve a comparable effect. However, it is not so easy to predict the survival of fat cells. Although the survival rate of fat has been greatly improved to 60% to 80% nowadays, it still varies depending on the individual's physique and different transplant sites. For example, even for the same person, the survival rate of fat transplantation near the conjugal uterus is much higher than that around the mouth.

Autologous fat transplantation is a long-lasting, large-area, and reasonably priced treatment option.

During surgery, doctors must implant slightly more fat than necessary so that the final remaining volume can be closer to the ideal appearance. After several weeks, part of the implanted fat will be absorbed, and the remaining part is the final state. For this reason, the fat will definitely look swollen after the operation. Also, due to differences in individual physical constitution, it is not easy to accurately predict the fat survival rate during the operation, and it is difficult to complete the filling in one go. Sometimes, in order to achieve better results, a second surgery is needed to transplant more fat. Therefore, it is particularly important to choose a physician who is experienced and has a high level of proficiency in surgical procedures.

In addition, don't ignore the source of fat. Friends who need a large amount of fat transplantation are usually very thin. If it is difficult to find a sufficient source of fat on the body, how can fat transplantation be performed? The fat that survives the transplant is no different from the normal fat in that area and will grow and shrink with our aging and weight fluctuations. Therefore, while keeping your body slim, don't go on an excessive diet to avoid losing weight that you have worked so hard to fill. I often joke that wool comes from sheep. If the sheep are malnourished, how can they grow good wool?

Advances in autologous fat transplantation have given us a treatment method that lasts long, can fill large areas, and is reasonably priced. However, surgery is different from micro-plastic surgery after all. There are recovery periods and surgical risks that are difficult to completely avoid. Friends must understand them clearly before undergoing surgery. In addition, the characteristics of fat cells do not make it easy to achieve 100% accurate filling. In some areas where "adding a little is too much, and subtracting a little is not enough", injectable fillers are still the better choice. Medical technology is changing with each passing day, and various treatment methods have their own strengths and weaknesses. Autologous fat transplantation is a good treatment option today, but it may not be the most suitable solution for you.

It is recommended that you discuss your needs with your doctor, understand the pros and cons of various methods, listen to the doctor's advice, and then jointly decide on the treatment method that is most suitable for you. Once you decide to undergo autologous fat transplantation, the doctor's skills and aesthetics should take precedence over price considerations. After all, it is a surgery that only happens once in a lifetime.
