Does cervicitis affect menstruation?

Does cervicitis affect menstruation?

Whether cervicitis will affect menstruation needs to be judged based on specific circumstances. There are usually general conditions, special conditions such as severe illness or poor physical condition, acute cervicitis, and complications caused by long-term cervicitis.

1. General

Cervicitis usually does not affect menstruation. Cervicitis is mainly an inflammation of the cervix. It usually does not affect the uterine cavity and ovaries. Therefore, theoretically, it generally does not have a direct impact on menstruation. The cycle and volume of menstruation are mainly affected by the cyclical hormone secretion of the ovaries, which causes the periodic and regular shedding of the endometrium.

2. Special Circumstances

1. Severe condition or poor physical condition: If the condition of cervicitis is serious and the individual's physical condition is relatively poor, it may have a certain impact on menstruation, resulting in abnormal conditions such as increased menstrual volume and prolonged menstrual cycle. However, this situation is relatively rare and other factors need to be considered comprehensively.

2. Acute cervicitis: Clinically, some women with acute cervicitis may bleed during menstruation or have heavy bleeding after sex due to obvious congestion of the cervix. This type of bleeding is called abnormal vaginal bleeding, which is not because it affects menstruation, but because it causes bleeding.

3. Long-term cervicitis leads to complications: If cervicitis is not treated in time, it may spread upwards and lead to endometritis. Endometritis may affect the amount of menstruation, or easily lead to uterine adhesions, or even amenorrhea.

For patients with cervicitis, early treatment is needed to prevent the disease from worsening and causing greater impact on health. At the same time, if menstrual abnormalities occur, medical examination should be sought in time to identify the cause and take appropriate treatment measures.
