What are the typical symptoms of irregular menstruation?

The main symptoms of irregular menstruation are menstrual cycle or bleeding disorders, such as irregular uterine bleeding, including excessive or prolonged menstruation; functional uterine bleeding; postmenopausal vaginal bleeding and amenorrhea; excessive or insufficient menstruation, etc. Irregular menstruation can also cause complications such as dysmenorrhea and menstrual syndrome.

Symptoms usually include:

1. Delayed menstruation: refers to the menstrual cycle often being delayed for more than 7 days, or even every 40 to 50 days, also known as "delayed menstruation". This symptom is mainly caused by deficiency. Patients may experience delayed menstruation, less menstruation, empty and painful abdomen, weakness, pale complexion, dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, muscle and bone pain, dry skin, less tongue coating, and weak pulse.

2. Early menstruation: Menstruation that comes more than 6-7 days in advance, or even twice a month, is also called "early menstruation". Most of the time it is caused by spleen deficiency and poor blood regulation. Common symptoms include heavy blood volume, light red color, thin blood, empty feeling in the lower abdomen, weak qi and blood, dull complexion, mental fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations, pale tongue, and weak pulse.

3. Menorrhagia: refers to excessive menstruation, which is overdue and caused by the blood flowing indiscriminately due to qi deficiency. Common symptoms include light red menstrual color, light menstrual quality, empty lower abdomen, fatigue, dull complexion, palpitations, shortness of breath, lazy speech, light red tongue with thin white fur, and weak pulse.

4. Oligomenorrhea: refers to a small amount of menstruation, which stops after 1-2 days; or spotting. Symptoms include light red menstrual blood, dull complexion, dry skin, dizziness, palpitations, empty pain in the lower abdomen, cold hands and feet, pale tongue, and weak pulse.

5. Amenorrhea: Long-term menstrual irregularities may lead to amenorrhea. The patient will have pale or yellow complexion, mental fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, insomnia, weakness in the limbs, pale tongue, and a deep and thin pulse.
