Adenomyosis: Is the uterus enlarged? What are the symptoms?

Does adenomyosis cause an enlarged uterus? What are the symptoms?

The pathology of adenomyosis is that the uterus is mostly uniformly enlarged, but the size of the uterus rarely exceeds 12 weeks of pregnancy. There are two types of uterine lesions: diffuse and localized. Generally, diffuse growth involves the posterior wall more, so the posterior wall is often thicker than the anterior wall.

Adenomyosis will not cause the uterus to become larger. The clinical symptoms of adenomyosis are as follows.

1. Excessive menstruation. Adenomyosis can cause the uterine wall to thicken, the uterine cavity to enlarge, and the endometrial shedding area to increase. The thickening of the uterine wall will affect the uterine contraction and hemostasis function, so menstrual bleeding will increase significantly and the menstrual period will be prolonged. Endometrial hyperplasia is also a cause of excessive menstruation.

2. Secondary dysmenorrhea. Clinicians point out that most patients go to the hospital for treatment only after the symptoms of dysmenorrhea appear. The dysmenorrhea of adenomyosis is secondary. That is, dysmenorrhea occurs during adolescence, and there is no dysmenorrhea even at the beginning of the reproductive period. This type of dysmenorrhea is progressive and aggravated. When you have your period, you will feel that the dysmenorrhea is more severe than the last time.
