What are the misunderstandings of women in treating cervical erosion? Women should be careful to avoid falling into two major misunderstandings when treating cervical erosion.

In daily life, many women will rush to seek medical treatment after suffering from cervical erosion, which often delays the treatment of cervical erosion. So what are the misunderstandings about the treatment of cervical erosion?

Myth 1: Cervical erosion only occurs when you have sex

At present, the real cause of cervical erosion is still unclear. It is generally believed that local mechanical stimulation or damage to the cervix, such as childbirth, artificial abortion or too frequent sexual life, can cause varying degrees of destruction of the cervical squamous epithelium, reduce the local resistance of the cervix, and easily cause cervical inflammation. However, clinical findings show that women who do not have sexual life still have cervical erosion, sometimes even severe erosion. No sexual history does not mean that cervical erosion will not occur. Therefore, for unmarried or asexual women, if there is a persistent increase in leucorrhea, or changes in color or texture, they should go to the gynecological clinic to find out the cause and treat it in time.

Myth 2: Long-term severe cervical erosion can lead to cancer

Many women with cervical erosion are worried about whether they will develop cervical cancer. They believe that the more severe the cervical erosion and the longer it lasts, the more likely it is to develop cervical cancer. Theoretically, cervical erosion is caused by the replacement of the squamous epithelium of the cervix with columnar epithelium, rather than true erosion. Cervical cancer is an abnormal proliferation of the squamous epithelium of the cervix, mainly caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HpV) infection. The two have different pathogenic factors and pathogenesis, and their pathological changes are also different. Therefore, simple cervical erosion, if not combined with HPV infection, will not lead to the occurrence of cervical cancer.

Women with cervical erosion should be reminded that during gynecological examinations, cervical cytology should be performed to preliminarily exclude the possibility of cervical cancer. This is because it is difficult to distinguish between early cervical cancer and cervical erosion based on gynecological examinations alone. If conditions permit, HPV testing should be performed at the same time as cervical cytology.

Many women know little about the disease of cervical erosion. Generally speaking, girls believe that cervical erosion is caused by sexual intercourse, so women who have not had sexual intercourse will not think that they will suffer from cervical erosion.
