Is cervical erosion related to cervical cancer? What are the causes of cervical cancer?

Many women have the misunderstanding that cervical erosion can cause cervical cancer, and therefore they are very afraid of cervical erosion. Experts say that there is actually no necessary connection between the two.

Medically speaking, when the columnar epithelium in the female cervical canal turns outward and replaces the squamous epithelium, doctors will find that the cervix is locally congested and appears red during examination, which is called cervical erosion. Erosion is not rotten in the true sense, it can be a physiological phenomenon. Under the action of estrogen, the columnar epithelium in the cervical canal of women of childbearing age turns outward and replaces the squamous epithelium of the cervix, presenting an erosive appearance. Erosion is also rare in women before puberty and during menopause because of the relatively low estrogen levels in their bodies.

It is worth noting that cervical erosion can also be a common inflammatory condition. Early cervical cancer is very similar in appearance to cervical erosion and can be easily confused. Therefore, if cervical erosion is found during a gynecological examination, it should not be taken lightly. Further cytological examination and biopsy are needed to confirm the diagnosis, rule out the possibility of cervical cancer, and provide correct treatment.

Causes of cervical cancer:

1. Relationship with sexual partner: If the husband has phimosis or foreskin that is too long, his wife has a greater relative risk of cervical cancer. If the husband has penile cancer or prostate cancer or his ex-wife has cervical cancer, or if the man has a sexual partner, his wife's chance of developing cervical cancer increases.

2. Relationship with sexual life: Women who have sexual life too early have a 4 times higher incidence of cervical cancer than those who start sexual life after the age of 18. It has been confirmed that if a woman has sexual relations with multiple men, she is more likely to develop cervical cancer, while virgins rarely suffer from cervical cancer.

3. Relationship with marriage: The incidence of cervical cancer is also higher in women who have married multiple times. Multiple births with poor perinatal maintenance and delivery process will also increase the incidence of cervical cancer.

Early prevention of cervical cancer:

1. Advocate late marriage and late childbearing, family planning, and avoid damage to the cervix. Pay attention to hygiene and keep the lower body clean. Men with long foreskin should be circumcised, and the smegma should be removed frequently with water to keep the genitals clean. If a hysterectomy is performed for other reasons, a uterine scraping examination should be performed before the operation. Actively treat chronic inflammation and deal with precancerous lesions.

2. Actively participate in the census of women's diseases; attach importance to the prevention and treatment of chronic cervical diseases, and actively treat cervical precancerous lesions such as cervical erosion, cervical warts, cervical atypical hyperplasia, etc.; advocate family planning and late marriage and childbearing, popularize health knowledge, strengthen women's health care, actively strengthen sex education, and carry out education on self-discipline.
