Uterine fibroids are one of the most common benign tumors in the female reproductive organs and one of the most common tumors in the human body. They are also called fibroids and uterine fibroids. Because uterine fibroids are mainly composed of the proliferation of uterine smooth muscle cells and a small amount of fibrous connective tissue exists as supporting tissue, they are more accurately called uterine leiomyoma. Uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids originate from the myometrium of the uterus and are divided into the following categories according to the different locations of the uterus: 1. Intramural fibroids. The fibroids are located within the muscular wall and are surrounded by the muscular layer. This type of fibroid is the most common, accounting for about 60-70%. 2. Subserous myoma. Intramural myoma develops into the serosa, protrudes from the surface of the uterus, and directly contacts the serosa, accounting for about 20%. If it grows between the two leaves of the broad ligament, it is an intra-ligamentous myoma. 3. Submucosal fibroids. Intramural fibroids grow in the uterine cavity, protrude in the uterine cavity, and directly contact the mucosal layer, accounting for about 10%. This tumor can gradually increase the deformation of the uterine cavity, and the pedicle is usually connected to the uterus. For example, a long pedicle can block the cervix or detach from the vagina. 4. Cervical fibroids. Fibroids rarely grow in the cervix. Because they grow in a low position, they can be embedded in the pelvic cavity, causing compression symptoms, making surgical removal difficult and easily damaging the ureter and bladder. 5. Uterine fibroids are often multiple. The different types of fibroids mentioned above can occur simultaneously in the same uterus, which is called multiple uterine fibroids. |
