What causes cervicitis?

Acute cervicitis has become a common gynecological disease in recent years. It is an acute infectious inflammation that occurs in the cervix. The main pathogens are: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Enterococcus and other general purulent bacteria. So what causes the cervix to be infected by these pathogens?

① Infection caused by improper care during the postpartum period. Due to the influence of the traditional concept of "confinement", the hygiene and cleaning work during the postpartum period is not done well, or incorrect care is given, which causes bacteria to retrograde upward through the vagina and cause cervical infection.

② Mechanical stimulation or injury during abortion or delivery can cause cervical lacerations. If not properly cared for, it can cause cervical infection.

③ Sexual activity: During sex, the couple does not do a good job of hygiene and cleaning. No matter which party does not do a good job of cleaning, it is possible that bacteria will be brought into the uterine cavity during sex and cause infection. Frequent sex will increase the chance of infection.

④ Vaginal douching. Some women are overly particular about hygiene and use high-concentration acidic or alkaline solutions to douching the vagina, thinking that this will prevent various infections. In fact, this will destroy the normal internal environment of the vagina, cause vaginal flora imbalance, and reduce resistance, thus causing infection. In addition, vaginal douching may also directly corrode and destroy the tissues of the vagina and cervix, making it easy to cause infection.

⑤ Various vaginal inflammations accumulate in the cervix and cause acute cervicitis, such as: acute Trichomonas vaginitis, candidal vaginitis and bacterial vaginitis.

⑥ Vaginal foreign bodies. When gauze, cotton balls or other foreign bodies are placed in the vagina for too long, it is easy to induce infection and cause acute cervicitis.

If acute cervicitis is not treated in time, it may cause ascending infection and lead to acute or chronic pelvic inflammation.

Symptoms of acute cervicitis:

① Increased leucorrhea, which is thick or purulent.

② Feeling of low back pain, pain in the lower abdomen, itching or tingling in the vulva; frequent urination, tingling during urination, etc. may also occur.

③ Gynecological examination may reveal that the vaginal and cervical mucosa are congested and edematous; the cervix is prone to bleeding, and may even develop ulcers and necrosis; purulent or sticky mucus may also be seen flowing out of the cervical opening or accumulating on the surface of and around the cervix, and may have a foul odor.
