(2) Liver and kidney yin deficiency

Prescription: Zhibai Dihuang Wan (Medical Mirror). Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, Rehmannia, Cornus officinalis, Chinese yam, Alisma, Poria, Cortex Moutan.

If the heat and toxicity in the lower part of the body is severe, add Chinese yam and white flower snake tongue grass as appropriate; if the amount of bleeding is heavy, add Imperata root, Rubia cordifolia, and Agrimoniae scabra as appropriate; if the eyes are blurred and dry due to yin deficiency, add wolfberry and chrysanthemum as appropriate; if the stool is dry and constipated, add hemp seed and Prunus mume seed.

Analysis: This prescription is made by adding Phellodendron chinense and Anemarrhena as the basis of Liuwei Dihuang Pill. Liuwei Dihuang Pill is formulated to nourish the three yin of liver, spleen and kidney, and focuses on nourishing kidney yin. In the prescription, cooked rehmannia nourishes kidney yin and benefits essence, which is the main medicine; Cornus officinalis warms the liver and nourishes the kidney; Chinese yam nourishes the kidney and spleen. The combination of these three medicines is called "three supplements". In addition, Alisma orientalis is used to reduce kidney turbidity; Poria cocos penetrates and benefits spleen dampness; and Cortex Moutan clears and purges liver fire, which is the "three purges". It is mainly designed to prevent the disadvantages of stagnation and greasiness caused by nourishing products. The whole prescription nourishes yin without leaving evil. In addition, Phellodendron chinense clears heat, detoxifies and dries dampness, and mainly clears damp heat in the lower part of the body. It is combined with Anemarrhena asphodeloides to nourish the kidney and moisten dryness, and clears and purges kidney fire. The whole prescription is quite suitable for those with yin deficiency and excessive fire.
