How to relieve pain from Bartholinitis

How to relieve pain from Bartholinitis

The Bartholin's glands are generally located deep in the female labia majora, and the opening of their glandular ducts is between the hymen and the labia minora. Because of their location, bacteria can easily invade the Bartholin's glands during childbirth, intercourse, and other situations, causing inflammation. So how do you relieve the pain of Bartholin's gland inflammation?

1. Rest. Those with systemic symptoms should rest in bed. In addition, the vulva should be kept clean.

2. Local heat, infrared or microwave therapy

3. Systemic antibiotics: Before obtaining culture results, broad-spectrum antibiotics can be selected. If suppuration has not yet occurred, medication can be taken to promote the gradual improvement of symptoms and absorption. When there are systemic symptoms, fever, and elevated white blood cells, intravenous antibiotics are often used. Or penicillin 800,000 U intramuscular injection twice a day. Cephalosporins can also be used:

The first generation of cephalosporins has a stronger antibacterial effect on Gram-positive cocci. The second generation of cephalosporins has a broad antibacterial spectrum and has a stronger effect on Gram-negative bacteria. The third generation of cephalosporins has a better antibacterial spectrum than the second generation, and some drugs are effective against anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole 0.2-0.4g/time 3 times/day;

Quinolones such as norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin (Lailixin) 0.2g/time 2 times/day or selected according to drug sensitivity. In addition, heat-clearing and detoxifying Chinese medicines such as dandelion, violet yedoensis, honeysuckle and forsythia can be used for local hot compress or sitz bath, or 1:5000 potassium permanganate water for sitz bath or local wet hot compress followed by antibacterial ointment

4. Abscesses should be immediately incised and drained and ostomy should be performed because simple incision and drainage can only temporarily relieve symptoms. Cysts or repeated infections may still occur after the incision is closed. When performing incision and drainage of abscesses, pay attention to the size of the incision to prevent poor drainage of pus, resulting in fistula formation or repeated abscess attacks.
